Great post! When did the Proclaimers book come out? When I was in the Watchtower they claimed that they saw that Jesus had returned in 1914 with they "eyes of understanding". They never were up front about any of their early teaching. Anyone wanting to look at the old liturature was viewed with suspicion. I would think that they came out with that book because information about their past was becoming easier to find and they were attempting to seem like they had always been open about their history. Another reason I think that they may have come out with this book was to try to put a good face on past errors and lessen the blow Jdubs would feel if they found these things out on their own.

Why I Like the "Proclaimers" Book
by t33ap80c inwhile it is true that the "proclaimers" book is not always as open and honest about the society's history as it claims to be, it is open and honest enough to bring into question the society claim to being god's organization.
it's a matter of (1) knowing what to look for, (2) where to find it and then, (3) to be able get the sense of what it means.. take for example the extremely important matter of the second coming of christ.... on the top of page 47 the book truthfully explains how president charles russell came to believe that jesus returned invisibly in 1874 to begin his second coming ("invisible presence").
and then a careful reading of the footnote on page 133 shows that the date of jesus' return was not changed to 1914 until 1943.. it is likely that even if some witnesses notice that fact, they do not get the sense of what it means.

Preparing Scriptural Defenses Against WTBTS
by Band on the Run ini am curious whether most people here believe that they need to memorize biblical proofs against wtbts teachings the way they did as a witness.
my concern is that for someone out for decades, i may read the bible too much.
i am drawn to it almost unnaturally as for me it is the best proof the witnesses lied and willfully misinterpreted.

I prefer to mostly stay away from the Bible and stick to the false doctrines. The WT is built on a pretty shakey foundation. If you look at that it is easy to see that they don't have any special understanding of the scriptures. But getting them to see something they are not ready to see is another matter. It can be very frustrating.

Some observations from the KM Elder School I wanted to share with you.
by miseryloveselders inmy school was a couple weeks back, and it was interesting to a degree.
to be honest with you, it reminded me of a police crime scene investigation with yellow tape.
what i mean is, in one respect it was business as usual.

Thanks for the info Misery. I'm glad your feeling better.
The world has past them by. They are a cult from a bygone era. It is hard to believe that they are still trying to get their youth to give up an education in favor of wandering the streets peddling magazine that no one but them really cares about. Even legitimate magazine and book publishing companies are struggling with how to deal with people getting their information electronically yet these morons are still trying to get force to hand deliver their literature. Add to that the Watchtower's problem of try to figure out ways of keeping their followers off the internet where they can learn about the real Watchtower. No wonder they are acting like corner animal.

So what was so good about it? How about some details? I love peanut butter so it is always good to me. I prefer the just peanuts and salt kind you have to refrigerate once opened.
Why are some talking as if peanut butter is junk food? It is probably one of the best things you can eat except for the fat content. Don't let the naysayer deter from your peanut butter bliss. They probably got their information from the Awake magazine.

It's Official: I Engaged In Gambling For the First Time Ever Today!
by mentallyfree31 inon my drive through louisiana this afternoon, i stopped by the casino and asked the lady to show me how to play the video gambling games.
i fed my money into it, and committed a "gross wt sin".
it felt quite liberating.

I know what you are saying about feeling liberated. I can still remember the first time I gambled while driving through Reno. I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong so I ignored the WT's council. By the following year I was completely out of tower and have been a recreational gambler ever since. Sometimes I'm in Nevada surrounded by gambling and I don't participate. It is nice to be the one deciding what I want to do instead of letting letting those old turds in Brooklyn decide for me. I agree with Farkel. At least I have a chance of winning in Vegas and even if I loose at least I had a good time. I can't say the same about being a JW. A big difference between the Watchtower and a game of craps is that you can learn all about craps and still want to play. If you learn all about the Watchtower you won't want to play anymore.

Look at this funny cartoon spoof of the WT study -- Tell me what you think?
by MarkedFragile inthis clip is one of many cartoon spoofs of life in jw world.
this particular one is a cartoon play on the wt study.
one of my favorite parts is where the man is flipping pages in the bible, trying to find the scripture being read, and when he finds it, the person is already done reading it (which always used to happen)!

It was very funny but it brought back painful memories of how mind-numbing those Watchtower studies were. I'm surprise more Witnesses don't sneak off to the restroom and hang themselves half way through it.
